Gr 10 Introduction to Excel

My Grade 10s seem to have difficulty hearing / listening / following instructions. I dreaded trying to teach Excel 2007. I solved the problem by having the learners create houses using Autofill, Alignment, Fills and Borders. Without being aware of it, they learned to read the screen and the features of the formatting pane. When they started ‘real’ work on page 217 it went so well! Have look at grades 10 C and D. My time ‘playing’ has reaped results. (I have saved the files in 2003 as some schools are using 2003.)

Baie dankie vir excel. Wil net weet kan 2003 en 2007 saam op dieselfde rekenaar gelaai word. Want gr. 12 moet volgende jaar voltooi en wil met gr. 10 op 2007 begin?

baie dankie

You can have both on one system. You have to install 2007, and then 2003. It is nice to work between the two when you introduce it.

Very interesting idea. I think I'm gonna try that next year. And yes, we also have both Office versions on our pc's. The Gr 10 classes use 2007 and my 11 and 12's use the older version. Next year only the 12's on the older office. My server is set up in such a way that the Grade 10's can only access office 2007. This helps contain the confusion when they open the wrong version. ;-)

Hi Pam. Thanks for a wonderful idea. Sometimes the simple little things are so much better than trying to be complicated. I started excel a while ago but I took a breather with them by allowing them just to have a little "fun" and gave a prize for the best house. They enjoyed it and it helped to breathe new life into the section. Regards.
