My Grade 11s are working so well on their PAT phase 1. Why? Because I taught them well last year, they have the long document on the PAT from national and they have the PPT I used last year ( http://www.compmat.wcape.school.za/PHS/examples/PAT/0910PAT.ppt ) The phases have changed slightly this year – so last year's phase 1 is this year's phase 2. I have watched the learners – they found slide on what to hand in the most useful. It is so nice to see the class working so well.

Something I've found helpful with the PAT's from Gr10-12 too is giving smaller deadlines. Instead of expecting Phase 1 handed in on a certain date but rather expecting parts of it at various times. Like wanting the folder structure and saved word Doc in the one week and then the task definition and main question in the following.
Even though grade 12 is externally set and moderated you can still make it your own. We need to try and have some fun with our learners. We mustn't forget they have so many demands placed on them especially in grade 12, so a little flexibility, a sense of humour and shorter deadlines are pivotal.
I have also given short deadlines and taken in Phase 1 in 3 parts. It helps so you can discuss each step and correct mistakes as they go along. I need help myself with some things eg. Where are are wizards (not templates) for CV's etc. Can't find it on my usual online help places.
Are the PATS for 2010 out? I am new to teaching CAT. This is my first year of teaching and I do not seem to have located the 2010 PAT's - only the one's for previous years.
The PAT has been available for some time – go to http://www.thutong.doe.gov.za/, then select Curriculum and Examination, then Computer Applications Technology, then scroll down. It is there.
Any good samples of pat phase 2 and 3 available?
